There are four family types; nuclear, step, extended, and one-parent families.
Nuclear Family-
Nuclear families include two parents living together with their children. Obstacles faced by nuclear families today include maintaining a loving, healthy environment for the children while both parents work, as well as planning quality time for family and the spouses.
Stepfamily-
A stepfamily is a family that includes children from previous marriges and are brought together to form a family with a new step-mother, or step-father. Another name for a step-family is a blended family. Some obstacles for stepfamilies are lack of understanding roles, finaces (step-parent may be paying child support for children from previous marrige, while still supporting step-family.)
Extended Family-
An extended family is a family where one or both parents live in the same household, with their children, in addition to relatives such as grandparents, aunts, and/or uncles. They all share house-hold chores. Obstacles for extended families may include, additional care for grandparents, extra expense, and/or extra stress on parents who are sharing their house with family.
One-Parent Family-
One-parent families consists of one parent and children living in the same household. Most one parent families are the result of a divorce, but may also be death of the other parent, or parent who has never married. Some obstacles of single parenting may include less time for leisure activities, less money available, and/or more responsibilities (choosing childcare, or balancing childcare with work.)
